Oui, il est possible de s'émerveiller pour un crématorium, de louer ...« la qualité architecturale du projet » et d'avoir presque hâte d'y poser un pied. « Ça fait partie de la vie... », relativisait Christian Baly, le maire de Saint-Martin, samedi matin, lors de la première visite de chantier. Pour le moment, le terrain est encore un vaste espace de terre de 3 ha. Depuis le début du mois, les travaux de voirie et réseaux divers ont commencé. La construction du bâtiment devrait, elle, débuter fin octobre, avec la pose d'une première pierre.La Communauté d'agglomération du Boulonnais (CAB) a imaginé cet équipement autour de deux maîtres mots, « recueillement » et « solennité ». La CAB a donc voulu insister sur « la qualité architecturale », a souligné Frédéric Cuvillier, son président. C'est effectivement ce qu'on peut observer sur les vues d'architecte. « Au-delà de la réponse à un fonctionnement, il y a un rôle social, un accompagnement humain », insistait Isabelle Colas, l'architecte en charge du projet, parlant même d'un « lieu magique ». Ces exigences ont un coût (4,5 ME, essentiellement financés par la CAB), mais Frédéric Cuviller l'a justifié par cette « volonté de qualitatif ».Le nom du crématorium, « Le Rivage », évoque « le passage entre deux mondes ». Un fil d'eau prendra sa source sous le bâtiment, d'où il sera visible. À l'intérieur, outre un espace d'accueil, deux salles de cérémonie (d'une capacité de 40 et 200 personnes) seront notamment aménagées.Puis le cours d'eau - avec aussi une petite cascade - conduira naturellement le public vers le jardin du souvenir, situé en contrebas, dans une cuvette naturelle. Un site cinéraire où les urnes pourront être déposées ou les cendres dispersées.Isoler du tumulteL'emplacement, à proximité d'une zone commerciale, n'a donc pas été rédhibitoire. « Le site proposait plusieurs avantages, a souligné Frédéric Cuvillier. D'abord celui d'appartenir à la CAB, ce qui a permis de réduire le coût, et ensuite de se trouver à proximité des axes routiers. Et puis la plupart des crématoriums se trouvent à l'extérieur des villes, voire dans des zones commerciales, comme à Lens, au Mans ou à Orange. » De nombreux aménagements paysagers permettront d'isoler les lieux du tumulte routier, dont un talus arboré.Frédéric Cuvillier et Christian Baly ont en tout cas assuré être régulièrement sollicités par les habitants sur l'état d'avancement du projet. Qui semble donc répondre à un besoin. « C'est un des premiers projets que j'ai voulu lancer, soulignait Frédéric Cuvillier. C'est une question de respect de la population, éviter de faire subir aux familles un déplacement d'une heure ou d'une heure et demie jusqu'aux crématoriums les plus proches (lire ci-dessous). » Un désagrément qui prendra fin dans un an. •
Heerhugowaard wil er definitief niets van weten, maar uitvaartbedrijf Monuta en eigenaar Marcel Appelman blijven pogen om toestemming te krijgen voor de ombouw van de Waerdse Tempel tot crematorium.De gemeenteraad weigerde deze week definitief om het bestemmingsplan voor het recreatiegebied bij de Plas van Luna zo te wijzigen dat daar een crematorium mogelijk wordt.De raad vindt in meerderheid de combinatie ongelukkig van het Strand van Luna met een rouwcentrum, hoewel Monuta er van overtuigd is dat die twee duidelijk te scheiden zijn, bijvoorbeeld door de rouwstoeten niet over de dijk langs het strand te laten rijden.Monuta heeft een intentieovereenkomst met Appelman. Zij belooft het gebouw te kopen, met als ontbindende voorwaarde dat de gemeente moet willen meewerken aan een wijziging van het bestemmingsplan. Die overeenkomst liep tot komende zaterdag, 1 oktober.Maar in een reactie op de weigering van de gemeenteraad zegt Monuta nu dat zij hoe dan ook zeer geïnteresseerd blijft. Zo zeer zelfs dat de intentieverklaring met Appelman is verlengd tot 31 december. Maar het is volgens Monuta aan Appelman zelf om de afwijzing van de gemeenteraad aan te vechten.Die zegt er de man niet naar te zijn om het hoofd zomaar in de schoot te leggen. ,,De race is nog niet gelopen. Als ondernemer vind ik dat het mijn recht is om in contact te treden met B en W en de gemeenteraad. Misschien moeten we het plan toch nog wat duidelijker uitleggen.’’Appelman sluit de Waerdse Tempel op 1 januari. Dat heeft Alkmaar en Heerhugowaard er toe gebracht om samen een onderzoek te (laten) doen naar manieren om van de Waerdse Tempel een regionaal poppodium te maken, iets dat Appelman al jaren bepleit, maar dat nooit eerder door de politiek is opgepakt. In dat onderzoek worden nu ook partijen benaderd als Nederlands grootste boekingskantoor Mojo en mediabedrijf IDtv.Het onderzoek had eigenlijk al zo’n beetje klaar moeten zijn geweest. Er is echter opnieuw vertraging ontstaanInmiddels hebben jongeren 12.000 handtekeningen opgehaald van mensen die willen dat de Waerdse Tempel behouden blijft.
WEYMOUTH’S crematorium opened its doors to visitors for an open day after a £1million revamp.New economical cremators have been installed and the rear of the building extended to house a new abatement plant that filters out toxins and reduces air pollutants from the cremation process by 99 per cent.Ian Price, bereavement services manager, said the total budget was £1.4million but that the work had come in under-budget.He is pleased that new windows in the opened out lobby will help increase the number of people who can watch the services from 110 to 150.Mr Price said: “This has been community led.“We had an open day two-and-a-half years ago to ask what the public and funeral directors wanted and we were given lots of ideas.”The new doorway means the pallbearers will no longer have to bend down each time they enter and the removal of the lower radiators has provided more width in the central walkway.To improve sound quality for deaf people the lectern has been repositioned on the raised platform that will allow them to lip read more easily.The two new cremators include a larger one with a maximum width of 43 inches.The smaller single cremator previously used meant that some larger bodies had to be taken elsewhere.The flower beds outside the front of the lobby have been removed to allow the arrival of the funeral cortege outside the crematorium and thereby allow visitors to congregate.A new canopy over the main floral display next to the crematorium will allow mourners to take their time outside.Mr Price said: “One of the complaints we’ve always had is the flower court was wide open to the wind and rain.”The money has also been spent on a new office area with a toilet and shower for staff and a kitchen area so that the pallbearers will no longer have to wait outisde in the rain.The money also went towards new gates and signs in the borough’s four cemetaries.
Thieves have stolen 66 bronze plaques from a south London crematorium to sell for scrap, a council has said.Staff at Croydon Crematorium, located within Mitcham Road Cemetery, discovered the theft on Tuesday morning, Croydon Council said.The council said securing the site, where 150 plaques were stolen in June, was "difficult".All of the plaques had been removed and replaced after being daubed with "smart water" following the previous theft.Thefts 'upsetting'The local authority said the thieves targeted bronze plaques for their scrap value.All of the remaining bronze plaques at the site have been removed again.The council said it would be writing to the families whose plaques were stolen to give them the option of buying replacements of a lesser value at a reduced rate.Councillor Simon Hoar, cabinet member for community safety, said: "Security at this site is difficult because it is so large and we aim to keep it open as much as possible so that those wishing to pay their respects can do so whenever they wish."These thefts are massively upsetting, and my personal feelings go out to the families concerned."
The speed limit could be lowered on a west Cumbrian road that is at the centre of concerns about fast traffic.Highways experts are recommending a new 40mph limit be introduced on the Distington Crematorium route – the C4011 – which links villages such as Pica and Gilgarran.A report to county councillors says concern exists about “perceived high levels of fast-moving traffic” using this route.Copeland councillor John Bowman, who represents Distington, has led a campaign to have the speed limit reduced to 30mph from the national limit of 60mph.A survey showed a small percentage of vehicles were hitting speeds as high as 75mph – but average speeds were at about 41 or 42mph.Over the last five years there have been four crashes, causing slight injuries.Most of these happened between the entrance and exit to the crematorium. Councillors, residents and a number of funeral directors have previously raised concerns over speeds.Police also support some form of cut in speed.The report states: “Cumbria Highways recommends that following traffic and accident data collection and having assessed the site in detail that a 40mph speed limit would be suitable.”The recommendation is being made subject to no formal objections being received.The report adds: “Following a study of accidents, causes and frequency, together with a survey of traffic speeds, it is suggested that the existing speed limit would warrant a change. Although concerns from the community expressed a preference for a 30mph limit it is suggested that a 40mph limit is installed.”The report goes before Cumbria County Council’s local committee for Copeland at Cleator Moor Civic Hall and Masonic Centre on Friday.

Les Boulonnais peuvent être rassurés car les travaux viennent de débuter dans la zone de l'Inquétrie. Si le dossier a pris un peu de retard, c'est dû à la présence d'une importante canalisation de gaz qui alimente Boulogne et qui traverse le terrain situé à l'entrée de la grande surface commerciale sise zone de l'Inquétrie à Saint-Martin-Boulogne.Frédéric Cuvillier, président de la CAB, ne se trompe pas : « Actuellement, il faut suivre le fourgon funéraire durant 1h1/2 puis revenir avec l'urne contenant les cendres du défunt. En effet, les familles doivent se rendre soit à Dunkerque, à Abbeville, à Vendin-les-Béthune ou Vendin-le-Vieil. Et, le site retenu allie des avantages : il est situé à proximité des grands axes routiers et le terrain appartient à la CAB. En fonction de la demande, le site sera évolutif. » Certains Boulonnais émettent pourtant une critique : « Pourquoi un crématorium près de la zone commerciale d'Auchan ? » Le président de la CAB s'explique lors de la conférence de presse donnée sur la zone samedi matin : « La plupart des crématoriums en France sont situés dans les zones commerciales. Ici, nous sommes en dehors de la zone commerciale. Il ne faut pas la traverser. » Isabelle Colas, architecte à Calais à l'agence Polynome est fière d'apporter sa pierre à l'édifice : « C'est un projet particulier magnifique qui fait appel à de l'accompagnement humain au-delà de la pure réponse à un fonctionnement. De plus, le terrain est très intéressant car c'est une conception isolée et autonome. Le nom du crématorium, le Rivage, c'est le passage entre deux mondes. » Quant au coût de cette construction, il est élevé avec 4.5 millions d'ueors : « C'est une volonté de faire de la qualité et de la dignité au moment de la mort. Nous n'avons pas une logique commerciale. La vertu de l'action publique est bien là. Avec le privé, les coûts sont moindres mais la notion de rentabilité est bien présente car il faut un retour sur investissements. D'autres pourront essayer de troubler la zone par des initiatives parasites. » Les travaux sont pris en charge à 90 % par la CAB et à 10 % par le Conseil général. La pose de la première pierre sera organisée fin octobre.
Work to link a Worcestershire crematorium to a new swimming pool is due to begin.The controversial project will use heat from Redditch crematorium to warm the pool at Abbey Stadium Leisure Centre.Redditch councillors said it would save more than £14,000 a year and building work would take up to five weeks.The pipes will run under the road through the cemetery and will not affect any of the graves, according to Redditch Borough Council.The council's portfolio holder for local environment Brandon Clayton said: "This is a vital part of making this innovative new way to save energy work."But we understand that any work taking place in the cemetery has to be treated sensitively."Plans for the project were approved in February and it has since won a national award from the Green Organisation.The plans had been attacked by Unison when they were first announced. The union said the proposals were "sick and an insult to local residents".
A FAMILY owned furniture manufacturer has completed a contract to fit out the first crematorium widely open to expatriates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).As part of the £80,000 deal North Yorkshire based Treske Ltd made furniture for the new crematorium chapel at Al Foah, outside Al Ain, the fourth largest city in the UAE.It is the first crematorium in the city, which is home to 400,000 expatriates, and only the second in the UAE, with the other facility in Dubai subject to strict restrictions.The 40-year-old family owned business, based in Thirsk, supplied oak and beechwood furniture including seats, an altar, lectern and two-metre wall-mounted cross, amongst other fittings.Treske, employing 25 staff and with a £1.6m turnover, has previously exported church and domestic furniture to countries including Japan and the US, with exports representing about seven per cent of the company's turnover.Treske's managing director, Justin Bartlett, said: "We are confident that this initial order to The Gulf will lead to more and are currently working on an enquiry from Abu Dhabi."We now have big ambitions to increase exporting to 20 per cent of our business in the next few years. "As we had never previously exported to The Gulf, we contacted Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce for advice, which was very useful."Head of York and North Yorkshire Chamber, Susie Cawood, says: "Exporting by successful manufacturers is crucial for the UK's fragile economy."Although Al Ain enjoys religious freedom under the UAE constitution, and has several churches where expatriate Christians worship, cremation has been virtually impossible in the wider region as it is generally prohibited for religious reasons.The UAE's only existing licensed crematorium at Dubai strictly adhered to resident visa requirements which meant that even expatriates which had spent many years in the country were not able to have their funerals there.Repatriating bodies for cremation or burial in the UK can be exorbitantly expensive.The chapel is to be handed over by the Al Ain Municipality next month and is expected to be blessed and officially opened by The Bishop of Cyprus and The Gulf, The Right Rev Michael Lewis, after which it will be used for regular services.In 2009 Treske manufactured 282 oak seats for a refit of Ripon Cathedral.

El tanatorio tiene una superficie construida de 1.050 metros cuadrados que alberga 4 salas, servicio de crematorio, capilla y otras instalaciones como sala de espera, cafetería o aparcamiento. Además de una zona de aparcamiento con 61 plazas.Finalmente recordar, que este equipamiento es doblemente beneficioso para el Ayuntamiento de Galapagar ya que se contempla como servicio público gestionado de manera indirecta con el objeto de ofrecer el mejor servicio a los vecinos.De esta manera, la empresa concesionaria se encarga de la gestión, construcción y administración de estas instalaciones, pero además abonará al Ayuntamiento un canon anual de un 10% por lo que, no sólo supone un coste cero para las arcas municipales sino que Galapagar sale beneficiado económicamente.
